Miami, FL (September 11, 2025) –Majo Aguilar, one of the most captivating voices in Música Mexicana, releases a moving rendition of Agustín Lara’s iconic “Veracruz”,recorded alongside her grandfather, José Carrillo. This monumental collaboration unites two generations, blending heritage and artistry in a moving celebration of tradition and family. Originally composed by Agustín Lara, “Veracruz” is a timeless anthem that embodies themes of nostalgia, love for one’s homeland, and the cultural richness of the coastal state that inspired it. For decades, the piece has been recognized as one of the cornerstones of Mexican musical identity.

“My grandfather, a doctor by profession and a singer at heart. Many years ago, when my grandfather José married my grandmother Susana, he chose to dedicate his life to medicine. However, along the way he also received a warm welcome from a major record label as an exclusive artist under the name José Carrillo. Everything pointed toward a career in music, but after an honest reflection, he decided it would remain a cherished passion rather than his profession. His commitment to his marriage and his family led him to choose medicine as his true calling. Since then, his guitar has never left his side, and with it he has gifted us joy, love, and the example of a life devoted to his family, his children, and his grandchildren. Today, it fills me with joy to share that at 85 years old, we decided to record Veracruz, a song he taught me as a child and one that has always been part of our family gatherings.” – Majo Aguilar

Majo and José’s duet represents the meeting point between past and present—where timeless tradition collides with modern interpretation. Together, they bring new life to a classic that continues to resonate across generations, showcasing the power of music to preserve heritage while inspiring the future. The accompanying music video, filmed at a recording studio in Mexico City, captures the intimate bond between Majo and her grandfather. It opens with a tender moment of both sharing coffee, cookies, and laughter before stepping into their respective booths to record. The visuals alternate between their heartfelt performances, playful exchanges, and quiet family moments, creating a powerful parallel of connection both inside and outside the studio. As the trumpets sing, each is shown dancing freely in their booths, fully immersed in the music. From the kitchen table to the patio to the recording space, the video highlights a relationship that transcends music, closing with a touching moment of José Carrillo’s affectionate words and Majo’s radiant smile.

Following the release of her latest single, “No Más Canciones De Amor”, Majo Aguilarreaffirms her place as one of the genre’s most compelling voices, balancing tradition with innovation in every release. Building on her acclaimed album ‘Mariachi Mío’, she fuses traditional mariachi with modern influences, including tumbado sounds, further solidifying her position as a leading force in the evolution of the genre. This past May, Majo delivered a powerful and unforgettable rendition of the Mexican national anthem at the highly anticipated boxing match for Mexico’s most iconic boxer, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez. Her performance captivated thousands in the arena and millions watching around the world, proudly carrying her Mexican heritage to the global stage in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This breakthrough moment honored her roots and cemented her place as a rising force in música Mexicana. Garnering over 417 million global streams on her music, Majo’s impact on the genre is undeniable. Earlier this year, Majo took home the Mexican Music – Female Artist of the Year at the 27th Annual Premio Lo Nuestro. Most recently, she received a nomination for Best Mexican Mariachi Music at the upcoming 2025 Premios Juventud for her song “Cuéntame” alongside Alex Fernández.

With this new release, Majo Aguilar continues to embrace her lineage while shaping her own artistic path, honoring the legacy of Mexican music with authenticity and emotion.
