This monumental collaboration unites two generations, blending heritage and artistry in a moving celebration of tradition and family. “My grandfather, a doctor by profession and a singer at heart. Many years ago, when my grandfather José married my grandmother Susana, he chose to dedicate his life to medicine. However, along the way he also received a warm welcome from a major record label as an exclusive artist under the name José Carrillo. Everything pointed toward a career in music, but after an honest reflection, he decided it would remain a cherished passion rather than his profession. His commitment to his marriage and his family led him to choose medicine as his true calling. Since then, his guitar has never left his side, and with it he has gifted us joy, love, and the example of a life devoted to his family, his children, and his grandchildren. Today, it fills me with joy to share that at 85 years old, we decided to record Veracruz, a song he taught me as a child and one that has always been part of our family gatherings.” – Majo Aguilar
Majo and José’s duet represents the meeting point between past and present—where timeless tradition collides with modern interpretation. Together, they bring new life to a classic that continues to resonate across generations, showcasing the power of music to preserve heritage while inspiring the future. The accompanying music video, filmed at a recording studio in Mexico City, captures the intimate bond between Majo and her grandfather. It opens with a tender moment of both sharing coffee, cookies, and laughter before stepping into their respective booths to record. The visuals alternate between their heartfelt performances, playful exchanges, and quiet family moments, creating a powerful parallel of connection both inside and outside the studio. As the trumpets sing, each is shown dancing freely in their booths, fully immersed in the music. From the kitchen table to the patio to the recording space, the video highlights a relationship that transcends music, closing with a touching moment of José Carrillo’s affectionate words and Majo’s radiant smile.
